Proposed hospital welcomed by Southlake officials
By Linda Taylor
An announcement by LandPlan Development they will begin the process to build a medical campus in Southlake was met with enthusiasm by city officials.
LandPlan Development announced April 27 that they plan to seek zoning approval to build a full service acute care medical and surgical hospital, medical office buildings, clinics and a long term acute care facility. The campus will be called the Southlake Regional Medical Center.
“This will be a great project for the city of Southlake,” said Greg Last, director of economic development for Southlake. “It will be a magnificent addition to the 114 Corridor. The development company appears to be very conscientious and they are proposed an extremely high quality development. We look forward to working with them to bring about this additional service to the residents of Southlake.”
“We are delighted to bring this phenomenal state of the art complex to the Southlake community,” said Jim Williams, Jr., president of LandPlan Development Corporation. “Our mission is for it to become the key destination for area medical professionals as well as the growing number of healthcare patients and their families throughout the region.”
The medical campus will be located on approximately 30 acres between S.H. 114 and Highland Street, east of White Chapel Boulevard. The first phase will consist of approximately 150,000 square feet of hospital and medical office space, with ultimate growth potential to over 900,000 square feet and 1,000 employees. Initial estimates set Phase I project costs at $50 million. Rezoning and site plan processing is anticipated within the next two months, with a Phase I groundbreaking scheduled for early 2008 and occupancy expected in 2010.
“We are excited about the medical campus at such a prominent location in Southlake,” said Andy Wambsganss, Southlake’s mayor. “This type of facility exemplifies the development quality and scale we anticipate along the 114 West Corridor.”
The hospital will be operated by Rockwall Hospital Corporation/Rockwall Hospitals, Inc., based in Richardson. The company began hospital development operations in early 1999. RHI was formed to jointly develop, operate and own hospitals with physician partners.
“It is a distinct privilege to work in the Southlake community with such a premier developer as LandPlan Development,” said Mark Kennedy, president of Rockwall Hospital Corporation. “We are pleased to enhance the healthcare opportunities for Southlake residents and the regional community.”
RHI’s team of healthcare experts has over 100 years of cumulative experience as highly effective turnkey designers and operators of profitable healthcare ventures. RHI manages three general acute care hospitals and is currently developing hospital projects totaling over $151 million in costs.
