Council tells Denton County to find another place for elections
By Penny Rathbun, Staff writer
Town secretary Kathy Phillips has been instructed not to renew the town’s contract with Denton County Elections that allows the use of town hall for other than local elections.
At a specially-called meeting on Tuesday, Town Manager Ivan Langford praised Little Elm Police and Fire Departments for their handling of traffic at the March 4 primary, but he did not think town hall needs to be used for that again.
He agrees that only local council and school board elections should be held at town hall.
He said Little Elm fared far better than many other locations. The traffic jam caused town hall to be closed down.
The Little Elm Town Council approved an escrow agreement between the Town of Little Elm and Little Elm Towne Developer, LTD.
The agreement allows the developer to build an interim entrance to the development at Walker Lane.
City Manager Ivan Langford said certificates of occupancy were proceeding for the development at Farm-to-Market Road 423 and Eldorado. Hobby Lobby, a new restaurant, and other shops should be open by the end of the month.
The rest of the meeting was a work session in which the council made no further official decisions, though they came to a consensus on four other topics.
Director of Planning John Taylor presented amendments to a parking ordinance. Council consensus was that future residences built in Little Elm must have a two-car garage and room for two more off-street parking spaces.
The effect of this amended ordinance would prohibit homeowners from enclosing their garages.
This ordinance will be on the March 18 regular council agenda.
The council also discussed the McCord Walker annexation of nearly 61 acres of residential land inside the McCord Walker tract.
Staff did not recommend approving the annexation because of the increased burden it would put on city services. Council consensus was to not approve the annexation. Public hearings will be held on the matter at the March 18 council meeting.
Preliminary discussions were held regarding the town’s purchase of the Little Elm ISD fleet maintenance facility, better known as the bus barn site. The building sits on land to be used for the new town center.
Langford said the town is looking at alternative sites for the school district’s fleet maintenance facility.

" Hey --what happened at a Little Elm school when all the tickets written were revoked for illegal parking? That didnt make the news, but Little Elm residents are mad as heck that the police show up to make money in issuing traffic citations(parking) at the expense of a school function, will it happen during elections? Just wait and see. Its seems this town is at up with greed, at the highest level. "
