Calling all artists
The city of Allen and the Allen Public Art Committee (PAC) seek to commission site-specific artwork that will engage the citizens and those doing business with the city as they approach the hub of city government, the Allen City Hall. This is a highly visible area with virtually all city hall customers and employees passing by or through this space.
This is a national call for submittals. While residency will not necessarily carry additional weight, Texas-based artists are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity.
Submissions must be received no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23. Mail all submission materials to: City of Allen Public Art Program, c/o Lori Smeby, 305 Century Parkway, Allen, TX 75013.
Please direct all submission-related inquiries to Lori Smeby, assistant director, at 214-509-4702 or lsmeby@cityofallen.org.

'Film Hollers' contest offered at library
The Allen Public Library invites teens in grades 6-12 to create "Film Hollers," short films that shout out about the importance of music and music education to children and to the community. These videos will take the form of 30-second public service announcements (PSAs) focusing on Black and African American musicians and the impact of music on our lives.
Teens will create their PSAs using Microsoft Office Moviemaker (available on library computers) or other video editing software and submit them to the library to be judged by a panel of city of Allen employees. Videos must be no smaller than 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels high.
The contest ends Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded, and the winning PSAs will be aired on Channel 16. For information, call 214-509-4913 or visit www.cityofallen.org.
