After 22 days of no food and 100-plus temperatures, Joel Miller has met his goal.
Since Aug. 3, the McKinney resident has camped on the roof of a trailer parked on the west side of U.S. 75 in Allen. He vowed to go without food until he collected 60,000 school supplies for disadvantaged children in Allen, McKinney and Plano, a goal he reached Wednesday.
While he has already eaten his first meal at the nearby Trinity Hall Irish Pub and Restaurant, Miller says he plans to stay camped on the trailer in an effort to raise 10,000 more items.
Miller and his organization North Dallas for Kids will host a back-to-school kick off from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday in front of Trinity Hall Irish Pub and Grill, 305 N. Central Expressway in Allen. The celebration will feature free breakfast, bounce houses, face painting and kids’ games.
