Texas Health Allen opens McKinney outpatient center
From staff reports
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen has opened a new outpatient center in McKinney offering imaging, testing and rehabilitation services to patients throughout the county.
Texas Health Craig Ranch opened its doors to the public in mid-August and offers customized diagnostic and imaging services and a staff of certified health-care professionals. Services at the 9,000 square-foot center include CT-scan, bone densitometry, digital mammography, digital X-ray and ultrasound.
Less than five miles from Texas Health Allen's main campus, the center is located near Highway 121 and Collin McKinney Parkway.
"Our employees assist patients with every aspect of their visit in a relaxed, comfortable setting," said Kathy Carreau, Texas Health Allen's Breast Center and Community Health director. “All of our exams are interpreted by board-certified radiologists and cardiologists.”
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for American adults, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but half of those fatalities occur in adults with no symptoms. Cardiac imaging can play a key role in detecting the early signs of heart disease.
"We can perform certain cardiac imaging scans in a matter of 30 seconds," said DeeAnn Abner, lead technologist at Texas Health Craig Ranch. "Calcium scoring is a non-invasive, diagnostic scan that helps a doctor determine a patient's risk of developing coronary artery disease based upon the level of calcium present in the coronary arteries."
A variety of cardiac imaging and diagnostic tests are available at the center, including a top-of-the-line computed tomography (CT) scanner. Capturing 192 images per second, the CT scanner reconstructs an image, clearly showing small bones, surrounding tissues and even blood vessels.
“We want to advance the level of cardiovascular care available for post-heart attack patients outside of the traditional hospital setting,” said Dr. Clyde Sullivan, a noninvasive cardiologist on staff and specializing in vascular medicine at Texas Health Craig Ranch. “Having an imaging center to aid us in those diagnoses is not something you’ll find at most outpatient facilities.”
Texas Health Craig Ranch is also home to a new outpatient rehabilitation program. Services include physical therapy, with cardiac rehab and pulmonary rehab beginning in November. The therapy area will include private treatment rooms and a rehab gym.
"I like to create a fun and relaxed environment for patients,” said David Clubb, Texas Health Allen's new Rehab Services manager. “The ultimate goal is to help them recover from surgery, injury, illness or pain while feeling like they are a member of our family.”
