Staff reports
The Village at Allen will kick off the 2010 holiday season with a free community event from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow, during which Santa, known to many North Texas residents as “The Big Guy,” will arrive for his third holiday season at the shopping center.
Sponsored by Park Place Lexus in Plano, the event will include a community tree lighting ceremony, a live remote by 99.5 FM The Wolf and a variety of free entertainment for the entire family. Additional holiday festivities at The Village at Allen will continue through December.
All activities will take place at The Grove Pavilion, located in the center of The Village at Allen across from Canine Commons Dog Park. Events are as follows:
The first 500 children to arrive on Nov. 20 will receive a holiday goody bag filled with treats and special offers from stores and restaurants at The Village at Allen and The Village at Fairview. The line for the goody bags will begin on the north side of The Grove Pavilion.
Lisa Taylor, host of the “Wake Up with the Wolf” morning show, will be on hand to keep the fun going throughout the event.
Sponsored in part by The Primrose Schools of East Allen and West Allen, holiday-themed crafts for children will be featured. Kids also may enjoy free face painting and balloon designs.
The Ice Angels from Allen’s favorite hockey team will entertain guests with a special dance routine.
Puppeteers from Peeler-Rose Puppets will delight kids with a holiday-themed show titled “Holly Follies.”
North Texas’ most popular Santa, “The Big Guy,” will make his official debut for his third holiday season at The Village at Allen, arriving in a red convertible provided by event sponsor Park Place Lexus.
A tree lighting ceremony will commence when Santa flips the switch to illuminate 100,000 lights on the shopping center’s 35-foot, interactive tree. The tree is programmed to play holiday music synchronized with its 100,000 dancing lights. Santa will be available to listen to holiday wishes and take photos with children from 7 to 9 p.m.
Activities and events continuing through December at The Village at Allen include:
Santa will have his own special house, located at The Grove Pavilion, where children may visit him for photos and holiday wishes. A new feature this year is the QLess virtual line, sponsored by AT&T. The Village at Allen is the first shopping center in the country to debut the technology, which allows guests to enter a “virtual line” for Santa photos by registering online from home or at one of the on-site kiosks at The Village at Allen and The Village at Fairview. Rather than waiting in long lines to see Santa, guests are notified via text or voice message of the time they need to arrive at The Grove for their visit with Santa. For daily Santa hours and photo package prices, visit www.thevillageshopping.com.
The Village at Allen is pet-friendly! After having a photo taken with Santa, canine companions may play at Canine Commons Dog Park, located across from The Grove Pavilion.
Don’t miss the 35-foot tree displayed at The Grove Pavilion. The tree is programmed to play festive holiday music synchronized with 100,000 dancing lights to create an interactive holiday experience.
Guests may take part in the season of giving by bringing an unwrapped toy to donate to the Allen Community Outreach holiday toy drive. Donation items will be collected in the toy box located at The Grove Pavilion next to Santa’s house.
The Village at Allen is located at the southeast corner of U.S. 75 and Stacy Road in Allen, Texas. For more information, visit www.thevillageshopping.com or call (972) 549-4010.
